The Purpose Behind the Mind Games
Here’s the kicker: this mental mayhem isn’t accidental. Narcissists aren’t just tossing out word salad to confuse you though they’re pros at that too. Their real goal isn’t chaos for chaos’s sake. It’s about control. After serving you a few hefty portions of nonsense, they’re fully aware your brain is scrambled, but that’s only part of their plan.
Image Is Everything
To a narcissist, image is their lifeline. They cling to a delusional belief that they’re a diamond in the rough, a god-like figure destined for greatness. Without this façade, they’d crumble, because they lack a core identity or true sense of self. To them, others aren’t individuals with feelings or opinions you’re merely objects, tools to serve their needs, fulfill their desires, or prop up their throne on “Delusionally R Us Island.”
Control Equals Power
For narcissists, control is synonymous with power. Manipulating someone to react or behave as they desire reinforces their belief in their dominance. Unlike normal conversations aimed at mutual understanding, their exchanges are a hunt for information anything they can use to maintain or gain leverage over you. They’re not listening to understand; they’re listening to exploit.
