Number 1: Someone who is more competitive than them.
These types of people are the ones that are always trying to one-up anyone; whether it’s with their job, their car, their clothes, or their latest vacation. They love to brag and show off and always try to make themselves look better than everyone else. These people are competitive, and the type of people narcissists just can’t stand. Narcissists are all about being the best; they want to be the center of attention and the focus of everyone’s admiration.
So, when they see someone who is also trying to be the best, it threatens their ego, it makes them feel like they’re not as special as they think. In addition to that, narcissists hate losing. They can’t stand being second best, or even worse, losing altogether. They always need to be the winner, who comes out on top. So when they see someone equally as competitive as they are, it drives them crazy.
Number 2: Someone who sets firm boundaries.
If you are the type of person who is quick to set boundaries with a narcissist, congratulations, you’re one step ahead of the game. Narcissists are notoriously challenging to deal with because they often lack empathy and tend to be self-centered. However, setting boundaries with the narcissist can be tricky. On the one hand, you don’t want to enable their bad behavior by caving into their demands. On the other hand, you don’t want to be so rigid that you end up driving them away.
Narcissists are attracted to people they can control and who will let them escape their lousy behavior. If you’re the type who stands up for yourself and doesn’t take crap from anyone, chances are you’ve made a narcissist crazy. The key to setting firm boundaries is to find a happy medium. Be firm but fair with your limitations. Don’t give in to their demands, But be willing to compromise when necessary, and most importantly, don’t let yourself get drawn into their games.
